Cooperation between Norway and Russia relating to marine research dates back to the start of the previous century, and was formalised towards the end of the 1950s.

As a result of such close research cooperation, the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea are now among the best-managed sea areas in the world.

This page contains research-based information on the condition of the joint stocks of marine biological resources, research-based TAC for marine resources, prognoses for possible catches in the Barents Sea and the Norwegian Sea, and recommendations for rational exploitation of these resources.

You will also find information on the cooperation between Norway and Russia, according to the framework laid down by the Joint Norwegian-Russian Fisheries Commission, international fishing bodies such as NAFO and NEAFC, and leading research institutes such as the Knipovich Polar Research Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography (PINRO) in Russia and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.
